  • What are the best antibiotics for Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)?

There are a variety of trusted antibiotics used to fight UTIs, including Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), Ciprofloxacin (Cipro), Cephalexin (Keflex) & Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid (Augmentin). The best antibiotic is one that is effective against your infection and causes you minimal side effects. It's always helpful to let your doctor know if there's one that's worked well for you in the past — wisp doctors will always do their best to prescribe effective treatment that works with you!

Wisp offers the most effective, FDA-approved UTI antibiotics available to treat UTI symptoms.

What should I take for UTI pain relief?

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin) are both effective for relieving UTI pain until you can get treatment. Pyridium (Azo), is a highly effective pain reliever that specifically targets urinary pain and discomfort. You can request Pyridium from your doctor after checkout.

Pain relievers are not a substitute for UTI treatment, however. The infection can continue to spread while you take pain medication, and you may not know how far it's progressed until you've developed a serious kidney infection. It's a good idea to only take a pain reliever until you get your antibiotics and then go off pain medication so you can monitor your symptoms and make sure the infection is gone for good.

    What causes a UTI?

While bacteria are present across different parts of human anatomy, they do not live “in” the urinary tract. They do, however, live near the urethra of women and uncircumcised men. These bacteria are the most common cause of UTI.

    How to Diagnose a UTI?

Most UTIs are diagnosed based on typical symptoms but require doctor verification for prescription meds. After experiencing a UTI one or more times, women become pretty good at detecting the early stages of a UTI and can consult a doctor quickly enough to prevent the infection from spreading.

Typically, as long as a female patient does not have vaginal irritation or discharge, and shows other common symptoms of UTI, no tests are required to prescribe antibiotics. However, due to the severity of complications that can occur with bodily infections, if a patient has recently (within the last month or so) taken antibiotics and the treatment was not successful, our doctors will write a prescription for lab testing in order to identify the bacteria causing the UTI.

How fast can I get same-day meds for UTI treatment?

Our doctors will review your information within 1-2 hours and, if safe and appropriate, prescribe medication for same-day pick up at the local pharmacy of your choosing. Alternatively, we can ship meds to your home in 3-5 days for free.

Do you accept insurance for UTI medication?

Wisp does not currently accept insurance for consultation or prescription costs. Our services are priced based on the cost of subscription and one-time purchase amount and vary based on the needs of each patient. The medication cost is included in our prices when shipped from our pharmacy. Wisp Care access, included with subscription, is priced to provide access for anyone who needs access to a doctor regardless of insurance. If you have insurance, depending on your plan, it may be possible to bill insurance specifically for your meds if you choose same-day pick up at the pharmacy.

Can I pay for UTI antibiotics with FSA & HSA?

Yes! At checkout, you will be able to enter a Credit Card and your FSA or HSA card.

How do I know wisp is legitimate?

You can check our LegitScript certification at the bottom of our site (a 3rd party accreditation service that Google uses and requires in order to advertise prescription drugs). All of our physicians and partner pharmacies are U.S. licensed & Board Certified (they can only dispense medication from certified manufacturers).
